Passed away peacefully after a long struggle with Alzheimers, at the Newmarket Health Centre, in his 90th year. Loving husband of Gretchen for 58 years. Beloved father of Sandra (John), Earle (Neela) and Michelle (David). Proud grandfather of Kale and Desi. Cousin of Ken, Ralph (deceased) and Barry Howie. Derek spent his working career in the carpet business. He was also a member at Thornhill and Glenway Golf Clubs, he was involved with the Cub Scout movement, elder at Forest Grove United Church and his greatest love was cottaging in Muskoka with his family. Friends may call at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street S., Newmarket on Friday, February 10 from 1-2 p.m. with a celebration of his life beginning at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of York Region.
