In loving memory of Ann Therese Phillips who passed away peacefully on March 7th, 2017 in Newmarket, Ontario surrounded by the love of her 5 children.

Ann Therese Phillips was 6th of 7 children born In Dalhousie, India on July 16, 1932 to Parents Percival Joseph Lintott ( British) and Mary Elizabeth Hanley (Irish). Percival was born in England and moved to India while Mary was born in Lucknow, India.

Ann’s childhood started in India during the British Raj (1857-1947). She lived in Jalandhar, the flatlands of North West India in Punjab State during the winter months and In Dalhousie in the foothills of the Himalayas during the hot summer months. Her father operated movie theatres in both cities which may be why she loved movies.

During the unrest in the 1940’s, the Lintotts reluctantly moved from India leaving most of their belongings behind to travel to England in Nov. 1946. Ann was 14 years old at the time. The unrest finally came to a head with the ruling British giving India its independence in July 1947. They traveled 3 days from Jalandhar by train to Bomba (Mumbai) where they boarded a Dutch steamship (John Van Oldenbarnevelt) and sailed for almost a month to England. The ship first stopped in Africa (Monbasa, Kenya) where it picked up 1200 Italian prisoners of war. The ship became very crowded after this as there was also on board German Internees being repatriated home after the war. The ship traveled up the Red Sea through the Suez Canal to the Mediterranean Sea. They traversed between Sicily and Italy’s main land to reach Naples, Italy where the Italian Prisoners of war disembarked. After Naples they stopped in Gibraltar for a short time before continuing on through to the Straights of Gibraltar to the outer sea and upward to England. They finally arrived in Southampton, England on Christmas Eve, 1946 before settling in Portsmouth. Ann moved with her then only two kids, Colette and Rocky, to Toronto Ontario via New York in Nov. 1956.

Ann was a voracious reader. Her favourite novels were usually historical fiction with adventures spanning continents and time similar to her own journeys that took her from India to England and then Canada. Although, she didn’t have an easy life raising 5 children on her own in a country far away from all her family, she always had nothing but sincere love and care for others. Her first love was always her children and it showed.

Ann’s memory will forever be cherished in the lives of her children; Daughter; Colette (Barry) McKee, grand children; Caroline Samuel, Andrew McKee, Son; Rocky (Mary Ann) Phillips, Daughter; Corinne Fardy, grand children; Justine Fardy, Steven Fardy, Amanda Fardy, Daughter; Cathy (Brian) Lindsay, grand children; Jennifer Lindsay, Michelle Lindsay, Christopher Lindsay, and 2 great grand children; Cole and Carter Son; Russ (Dominique Skarzenski) Phillips, grand child ; Marek Phillips-Skarzenski

A celebration of Life will be held in her memory at Newmarket Community Centre & Lions Hall, hall 3, 200 Doug Duncan Dr. on April 8th, 2017 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm
