Obituary for George Henry Potter

George Henry Potter
POTTER, George Henry
(Royal Canadian Navy Veteran who served in WWII)

Passed away peacefully at Cedarvale Lodge Retirement Home surrounded by his family, on October 3rd, 2017 in his 92nd year. Loving husband of Lois (nee VanKoughnett). Beloved father of Jim (Marsha), Gerry (Lee), Ruth (Brock), and Gayle (Bill). Proud grandfather of Michelle, Bob, Brent, Ryan, Erik, Keith, Grant, Glenn, Megan, Josh, and the late Erin. Great grandfather of Brody, Austin, Kendall, Bryce, Nolan, Everley, and Paislee.

George was a Plumber with Local Union 46, general handyman and jack of all trades. He was a hard working husband and father to his four children, and a loyal friend who was always willing to lend a hand when needed. After George retired, he and his wife were fortunate to follow their dream, spending winters at their condo in Florida where they made many friends. George was an avid artist and singer. He was actively involved in the Seniors Centre in Florida where he loved to sing in their annual productions, and painted the background scenery for their shows. When back in Ontario for the summer months, George was a member of the Upper Canada Chordsmen Chorus, and a member of the Newmarket Legion where he and his wife again made many loyal and supportive friends who they enjoyed spending time with. George will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Toward the end of his life, George rested at Cedarvale Retirement Lodge with his wife by his side. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the staff at Cedarvale Lodge for the love and excellent care that they have provided to both George and his wife Lois.

Friends are welcome to join in visitation at Newmarket Legion, 707 Srigley Street, Newmarket on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with reception to follow. Memorial donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 426, Poppy Fund.
