Obituary for Sheila Mary Morris (Mellor)

MORRIS, Sheila Mary (Mellor)
Passed away peacefully at home in Newmarket on Sunday, November 19th, 2017 at 90 years of age.
Loving wife of Sid for 54 years. Cherished mum of Shawn (Sydella) and Katrina (Mike). Proud Grandma of Tyler, Connor, Sierra and Heather. Survived by brother Frazer and predeceased by sister Heather.
Sheila was born in Scotland on March 9, 1927 and lived in the small town of Alexandria, south of the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. After attending Secretarial College she worked at the tax office in Dumbarton before leaving home to travel the world. Sheila eventually chose Toronto, Canada as her new home in the mid 1950s where she remained ever since.
During her working years, Sheila spent time as a governess on a sheep station in Australia and as an Executive Secretary at Imperial Oil, Bate Chemical and Sidney L. Morris Securities Inc.
Sheila was a gifted singer with a beautiful contralto voice who performed with the Canadian Opera Company, the Esso Choristers, and at a multitude of special events over the decades. Sheila shared her musical talent as a member of the Trident Club at Timothy Eaton Memorial Church. Her sought after voice led her to Walmer Road Baptist Church as a soloist, where she quickly grew attached to her new church family and remained an active member for over 40 years.
Special thanks to the palliative care team, the PSWs from We Care and the Saint Elizabeth nurses for their tender loving care.
Private cremation has already taken place. Friends are welcome to join the family at a Celebration of Life memorial at Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket on Sunday, December 3rd from 3 - 5pm. Memorial service commencing at 3:30pm.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to Walmer Road Baptist Church. Online condolence at www.roadhouseandrose.com
