Obituary for Allen Garner Daniels

Daniels, Allen Garner, age 92, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket on Friday December 22, 2017. Allen was born in 1925 in Toronto, the second youngest of nine children, all of whom predeceased him. At age 6, he would meet Doris, the girl who would become his wife, and the true love of his life, with whom he would celebrate over 70 amazing and loving years of marriage. Allen is survived by his 3 children: Mae Anne (Kym McCarthy); Ian; and David (Sandra), 5 grandchildren: Michael; Matthew; Brianne; Sarah; and Samantha, 2 great-grandchildren; Dylan and Harper, and numerous nieces and nephews. Allen grew up during the depression, learned the value of working hard and helping out, and never lost sight of the importance of family, working before and after school, plus weekends, to help support his family, being a bicycle delivery boy for Cameron Meats and delivering bags of coal around East York. Once old enough, he enlisted in the army, becoming a radio operator in the Royal Canadian Corp of Signals. After WWII ended, Allen and Doris married, moved to Newmarket, built a home and raised their family. Allen was always, more than anything, a family man, enjoying anything that involved family, from making the calls at the family square dances, to family euchre parties, horseshoes, cribbage, bowling, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, to driving around Canada visiting family. And he was a jack-of-all-trades, a skill he eagerly shared. Despite his couple of health battles in his later years, Allen remained a happy, compassionate, and caring man who deeply loved his wife and family.
