Obituary for Geertje Milvand (Westra)
Passed away peacefully with her children by her side, in Newmarket, on February 20, 2018 in her 93rd year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Heino Milvand. Loving mother of Mike, Sylvia Stewart and husband Stephen. Much loved Oma of Erica and Jeffrey Stewart. Sister of Elizabeth Kat-Westra. Predeceased by brother Bertus Westra and Aaf Gros.
Gaya was born in Friesland. She was educated in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1953. She worked as a Registered Nurse in different capacities during her professional career. Gaya enjoyed walking on the pathways of Ferry Lake, watching the Leafs on TV and crocheting many afghans and table cloths.
A special thanks to the staff at Southlake Regional Hospital. We are also very grateful for the wonderful care mom received at the Margaret Bahen Hospice and to Dr. Mulhern for her care and support. Gaya will be greatly missed by all. Memorial donations may be made to the Margaret Bahen Hospice.
A private family service will take place, as per Gaya’s wishes.
