Charles Buddy West

I have just sadly heard about Jimmy's passing. In 1955 when I was in Grade one at St.John's School I enthusiastically signed up to join the First Wolf Cub pack at the old scout hall by the arena. There I first met Jim. For the next nine years he was my cub and scout master. Right from the beginning he instilled in me and my fellow wolf cubs the values which still direct me. Looking back, I remember the uniformed parades for Veterans Day, Remembrance Day, Jamborees and camping trips, and summer camps and of course the annual boy scout apple days. There was Jim leading us. One day I was the top fundraiser for the annual Boy Scout apple day and received first prize: a window decal. My parents wasted no time in adhering it to our front verandah window at 330 Millard Avenue where I hope it still is. We have lived out of the province for forty years but recently I attended a Newmarket Historical Society Christmas banquet and to my delight there was Jimmy. We had a wonderful visit! He wondered if the sign was still on the verandah as he would often look for it. I said I hope so but there are new owners in the home. The sign read "A WOLF CUB LIVES HERE." And so Jim: fare thee well. "WE'LL DO OUR BEST" AKALA Sincerely, Buddy West Pincher Creek Alberta
