FORHAN, Bob

Passed away on Sunday June 3, 2018 at 82 years of age. Loving husband of Sandra and beloved father of Robert, Michael, Joseph (Brenda) and the late Scott. Proud grandfather of Eric, Carlie, Emma, Shelby, Luke, Ty, Rys, Jax, Nash, Amanda, and William. Dear brother of Loretta Luther and the late William. Bob was born in Newmarket in 1936 and left at age of 14 to pursue his love of Hockey. He played Jr. A for the Weston Dukes and Guelph Biltmore’s and continued his education at University of Waterloo. While teaching in Sudbury, he played in the 1960 Olympics and won the silver medal in Squaw Valley. He also played in the 1964 Olympics in Innsbruck while he continued his education at the University of British Columbia. Bob graduated from the University of British Columbia with Bachelor of Physical and Health Education. After moving back to Newmarket, he taught at Pickering College and Thornhill Secondary School. He joined politics and was successful in becoming the Mayor of Newmarket, Chairman and Chief Administrative Officer of York Region and retired in 1995. He was a lover of all sports, but enjoyed track and field, tennis, squash, baseball, and golf. Friends may call at the Roadhouse & Rose Funeral Home, 157 Main Street South, Newmarket for visitation on Thursday June 7, 2018 from 2-5 & 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at the St. John Chrysostom Church, 432 Ontario Street, Newmarket on Friday June 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at the Magna Centre, 800 Mulock Dr, Newmarket. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
