Tartan Vest

I'm so sorry to hear that Jim passed away. I was very inspired by watching him play his big red (black?) 335 guitar and hearing his great voice at the Astor when I was only 7 years old. My mum, Annie McLean talked him into giving me a few guitar lessons, at his house in McLeod St, Broxburn, just before the family headed off to Canada. I remember the excitement when Jim arrived at the Astor in his yellow Datsun, on Sunday afternoons, me anticipating his great renditions of Suspicious Minds, Cotton Fields, etc. I think of him often when I play Me and Bobby McGhee, (my mum loved when he did that). What a voice! I remember the scandal he caused one night playing with Henry Cummings and Jimmy the drummer at a wedding in his tartan vest, haha! Although I was only a nipper then,I was very much influenced by Jim and that led to my own 'career' in music ; my first live performance ... The Astor! I now, unexpectedly, teach guitar and play for a living, who knows how much of that influence contributed to my life. I will do my own wee tribute to Jim this Friday night. Please pass on my sincere condolences to all his family. Calum x
