Early days in Newcastle upon Tyne

So sorry to hear of the death of Uncle Joe and the circumstances of that death.

As a young boy my memories of him were as my hero. He would always spend time with me when my mother took my sister and I to the family home in Heaton. I remeber him acting in The Mikado at Heaton Grammar School before he left for Newcastle University. He had the patience to teach me chess which helped me become school chess champion years later.Joe also taught me to swim when he taught at one of the schools I attended. later admitting he could not swim himself.

I caught up with him in Toronto in 1964 and 65 where I met his sons, playing many a game of soccer with them.and later when, Lilian and he visited my mother and father in there Newcastle home.

I will always have the fondest of memories for Uncle Joe.
